As part of the Manchester Garden City campaign, a planting scheme for the canal embankments surrounding the Dale Street car park have been developed by Piccadilly-based architects BDP.
BDP is are looking to demonstrate support from local residents and businesses in order to access capital funding to pay for the plants and materials required - an artist's impression for the scheme can be seen opposite. You can also have a look at the proposal for Piccadilly Basin.
The plan aims to develop more public green spaces and create biodiverse environments for the people and wildlife of Manchester.
Landscape architect at BDP, Jenny Ferguson commented: "“We'd love to roll this out across the city as a best practice concept. Hopefully this is an opportunity to inspire the people of Manchester to green their own doorstep and improve their local environment whilst at the same time making a greener, more biodiverse city that is adapting to climate change."
Fellow architect Nicole Batten continued: "The Manchester Garden City campaign hopes to bring biodiversity into the city in a fun and contemporary way".
