four23 launch a brand identity for Olympic gold medallist

four23 have created a brand identity for Christine Ohuruogu, the Olympic 400m champion.

Working closely with the athlete, four23 developed a visual identity based on a simple butterfly shape, made up of five gold rings, to represent Chrissy’s achievement at the Beijing Olympics 2008 and her aspiration for London 2012. The blue butterfly symbol itself is a reference to Chrissy’s Nigerian family heritage - the country is home to a rare breed of butterfly, famed for its speed and striking blue colour.

The initial roll out of the new brand is the website - www.chrissyo.com. four23 used full screen images to showcase Chrissy’s prowess on the track. The content reflects her as a person, not only as an athlete, with sections dedicated to the books and music that Chrissy is passionate about. Her butterfly identity is incorporated into the navigation to add a playful element, alongside a custom typeface.

Warren Bramley, four23’s creative director and co-founder said, “Chrissy’s contributions in the initial research was invaluable, so much so that when we came to the design, the process was a very natural one – the design just emerged. It was a wonderful project to work on.”
