A brand new commissioned piece of art is set to come to Piccadilly in preparation of the 7th Eurocultured festival.
Contemporary artist ‘Zedz’ is coming to Manchester for the first time and will be installing a temporary structure in the new plaza in front of the Piccadilly Place development, just across the road from Piccadilly Train station.
Zedz has a huge international profile and is one of the most innovative contemporary artists in his field and has shown his work all over the world. His sculptures are interactive and will be in place for 12 weeks throughout April, May and June.
This is the first time he has created this type of work in the UK and this has been made possible with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, The Carlyle Group and the Piccadilly Partnership. The brand new work will be launched on April 22, with a private view and then a public launch the following day.
Zedz commented; “The idea behind the work is that the graffiti becomes 3 dimensional and physically interacts with the public in a passive way. This graffiti piece has broken free from its usual wall based environment and has become self supporting. By becoming an object, the graffiti becomes the wall itself.”
To support the work will be an exhibition in an adjacent empty retail unit. The exhibition will feature some work by Zedz and also a ‘Eurocultured festival retrospective’ that will featured canvases created at past events in Manchester, Belfast and Dublin. The show will see an amazing collection of contemporary art created in spray paint, acrylics and mixed media from top artists and all works will be for sale.
The exhibition will run from April 23 to June 19 2010
The exhibition is open weekly on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 12 and 5pm
The 7th annual Eurocultured Street Festival takes place on May 30 and 31 near Manchester Oxford Road train station. Visit www.eurocultured.com for full festival listings.
