What's On in Piccadilly
Leading you through Piccadilly from dawn until dusk, this monthly guide gives you everything you need to know about what's on in Manchester Piccadilly.
The Manchester Picnic - 6-8 August
The family-friendly Manchester Picnic is set to take place across the city centre from 6-8 August.
Piccadilly Gardens will become a picnic oasis for foodie families, with the grassed area transformed with benches and bunting. Along with a range of speciality market stalls selling picnic-style food, there will be 50 wooden picnic tables complete with red and white gingham table cloths.
Other specially themed picnic sites will include St John’s Gardens near MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) and the Roman Gardens at Castlefield.

Opera North, City Inn Manchester - June - September 2010
City Inn Manchester is proud to present a dynamic cultural exhibition in partnership with Opera North. This exciting exhibition is open to the public and set within the social spaces of the City Inn Manchester hotel. Consisting of five full opera costumes and eighteen photographs of opera performances by Opera North, the exhibition celebrates the work of Opera North and gives the public an opportunity for an up close and personal insight in to opera.
The costumes are from two operas which are very different. Verdi’s Don Carlos written in 1866, a grand opera with an extra large chorus; and A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Benjamin Britten a contemporary and daring opera which premiered in 1960. Choosing costumes from two productions from very different eras demonstrates how opera not only has a rich heritage to draw from, but is also a living and evolving artform. For instance, Rufus Wainwright premiered an opera at last year’s Manchester International Festival.
You can view the Opera North display 24 hours a day, for free, at City Inn Manchester hotel.
