BDP is up against the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies in Ningbo, China and Elm Park in Dublin. The studio is one of only two UK projects shortlisted across all of MIPIM's award categories this year.

Gary Wilde, the architect director at BDP who was responsible for the overall delivery of the Manchester studio project, said: "I'm thrilled that our commitment to genuine sustainability and our green approach to the Manchester studio has officially been recognised by MIPIM as a world class example of low-carbon design. It has also brought BDP Manchester's reputation for innovation and sustainability to a global audience."

Over 250 of BDP Manchester's staff relocated to the 33,000 sq ft, six-storey building in Piccadilly Basin last summer. Amongst its sustainable features are Manchester's first living brown roof, specifically designed to attract the increasingly rare Black Redstart bird, a natural ventilation system which warms and cools the building without the need for heating or air-conditioning, a rain harvesting system to flush the toilets and low-emission lighting throughout.

The MIPIM Green Building Award will be decided by a peer vote and announced in Cannes on 12 March.
