The Manchester studio of BDP has continued its award-winning year, scooping an award at the recent 2009 RIBA Awards, for their bespoke BDP Studio in Piccadilly.
The win is the latest in a series of high-profile awards for BDP, the UK’s largest design practice, and means the Manchester studio has enjoyed three successive years of RIBA Northwest Awards.
RIBA Northwest Awards
The RIBA Northwest Awards are held annually to celebrate buildings considered to be of high architectural merit. This year, 13 out of 31 nominated schemes from across the northwest were placed on the shortlist.
BDP’s Liverpool studio also won an award for their Liverpool One Masterplan.
The judging panel visited each scheme, taking into account the criteria of budget, size, complexity of brief, detail, invention/originality, contract type, client satisfactory, sustainability, social factors and delight, before deciding on the winners.
Gavin Elliott, chairman at BDP’s Manchester studio, said; “It’s a great feat just to be shortlisted for the RIBA Awards, so to win two awards is a real achievement for BDP. We’re extremely proud of the creativity and sustainability of our design. We’re extremely proud of these awards and the recognition it gives to the practice’s contribution to the quality of the built environment in the region.
“The practice began in Preston in 1961, so it’s wonderful that BDP has been recognised by RIBA North West for our work for the third year in a row.
“We hope that our achievements will bring to greater attention the influential role of designers in shaping the region, and delivering sustainable environments for current and future generations.”
Winners of an RIBA Award will be eligible to be shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize.
