The Piccadilly Partnership is proud to announce it has become a sponsor for The Royal Northern College of Music’s The End of the Line (A Brief Encounter) event at Manchester Piccadilly Station on Saturday 4 July from 9pm.

Composer Peter Wiegold has been commissioned to create and direct a unique musical installation to fill the public spaces of Piccadilly station at the end of the day, with the full engagement of Network Rail and its partners.

Hope and regret

Full of the hope of arrival and the regret of departure, railway stations are where journeys begin and end. 200 RNCM students will come together to perform The End of the Line (A Brief Encounter), a musical experience that will explore these themes, working in advance with Wiegold to shape the piece which will be heard in its entirety for the first time on 4 July.

Janet Dunnett, chief executive of Piccadilly Partnership commented; “We were immediately interested in supporting The End of Line because it will use the vibrant setting of Piccadilly Station to premiere a completely new and exciting piece of music. This is exactly what Piccadilly and the Partnership is about - innovation, mixing old and new and producing something completely unique. The RNCM is a long established leader in its field and I have no doubt this event will provoke some interesting reactions across the city.”

Both travellers and visitors alike can also enjoy the smaller, impromptu performances from 10am at the station.
